Retired General blames Tories for moving expenses report

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – A retired general turned Liberal adviser is claiming the Harper Conservatives are behind a news story on his moving expenses.

Andrew Leslie says the story, which aired on CTV News over the weekend, is an attempt by the Conservatives to undermine his new role as a Liberal adviser.

The CTV story quotes a document that says Leslie received 72-thousand dollars to cover the cost of his move from one Ottawa home to another.

Leslie insists he followed the rules to the letter and that most of the moving expenses went to real estate fees.

Defence Minister Rob Nicholson calls the amount grossly excessive and is demanding an explanation from his department.

Leslie issued a statement yesterday saying he has faced real bullets and can handle personal attacks by the Tories.

But his statement didn’t explain how he concluded that the Tories were behind the CTV story.

Leslie is slated to speak to a major Liberal policy meeting next weekend in Montreal.
