DELTA (NEWS1130) – At about 10:30 am today, the Ladner Leisure Centre sustained facade damage along the exterior east portion of the building.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
A structural engineer conducted a building envelope assessment to determine the cause of the damage.
George Harvie with the Corporation of Delta says it could take some time to rebuild.
“The leisure centre was built over 40 years ago and there was a hidden deficiency on the fastening system which unfortunately again took this length of time to expose itself and actually cause the facade to break away”
The weight room, fitness centre, ice arena, and rear parking lot are closed until further notice. The customer service area and all pools at the Ladner Leisure Centre is open under normal hours of operation.
Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
