VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Burning bright in Jack Poole Plaza Sunday morning, snow fell on Vancouver’s Olympic cauldron, lit in celebration of the men’s hockey gold medal win in Sochi, Russia.

Vancouverites came out in droves to the handful of pubs and bars, which opened early to allow fans to cheer their team to gold.

It was standing room only at Library Square as locals braved unrelenting snow well before dawn to line-up and catch the 4-am start of the Olympic gold medal hockey game.

Even though people were exhausted, the cheers coming from Vancouver’s pubs were undeniable–everyone was feeling patriotic.

“It’s amazing, just like in Vancouver. It’s incredible. I’m so proud of them,” said one fan.

While some people set their alarms for 3 am or earlier, another fan admitted like many, he stayed up all night. “I haven’t even been to bed. I am so tired.”

As for the game, well, we weren’t all that surprised with the win against Sweden. “Actually it wasn’t even that exciting because we beat them very handily, to be honest. It was 3-nothing,” said a man as people sang along to Canada’s National Anthem as gold medals were placed around the necks of Team Canada.

After the medals were handed out, dozens of people bundled up and trudged their way down the street to celebrate and snap pics at the cauldron.
