Port Metro Vancouver reports record year

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Port Metro Vancouver reports 2013 was a record year in some categories.

The federal agency for the region’s docks says a record 135 tonnes of cargo was handled, up nine per cent.

It says there were record volumes of containers and bulk cargo. The latter was due to increases in coal and grain shipments, especially barley.

The port authority also says there was a sharp increase in the number of cruise ship passengers, 22 per cent more than the 812,000 last year. Twenty-nine ships made 235 stops in Vancouver.

Auto shipments were down one per cent and crude oil shipments were off by five per cent.
