Man charged in connection with attack at MLA’s office

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Vancouver man has been charged in connection with a reported assault at an MLA’s office.

Sgt. Randy Fincham with Vancouver Police says Michael Melvin Williams has so far been charged with assault and mischief. If the Hate Crimes Unit finds information to suggest that a possible hate crime did occur it would be up to those members to work with Crown in relaying that information to a judge.”

Vancouver-West End MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert says a man walked into his constituency office late last month, demanding to see him.

He says the man seemed angry about a rainbow flag displayed across the street and began shouting homophobic slurs.

Chandra Herbert claims a hole was punched in a door and his assistant was punched in the face.

Williams, who is 53-years-old, will make his next court appearance on April 4th.
