Massey Tunnel reopened after semi crashed into barrier

By

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Things are back to normal at the Massey Tunnel after a semi crashed through the counterflow lane’s concrete barrier just north of the HWY 17A overpass.

Corporal Robert McDonald with EDivision says there is no structural damage. “The vehicle lost control, it flipped on its side.” He says a diesel fuel spill had to be contained.

It took two tandem tow trucks and a lot of man power to remove the semi truck. At one point the trailer had to be separated from the truck’s cab to free it.

McDonald had originally estimated it would take four hours to clear, which actually took less time.
