BC says content more important than length in teachers’ deal

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s education minister suggests the government might be backing off of its goal to reach a 10-year contract with teachers.

Peter Fassbender was asked whether a decade-long deal is realistic.

“Really, it is the contents of the deal that is going to be important. The length is not a problem if you have enough details within the agreement that allows for the protection of both parties,” he answered.

“Mr. Iker says that they’re not prepared to look at a 10-year deal. We want a long-term settlement that avoids this kind of uncertainty for students and parents and teachers,” adds Fassbender.

This comes a day after BCTF members voted overwhelmingly in favour of job action.
