Clark stands by jobs plan, despite gloomy employment figures

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – In the wake of dismal job numbers, BC’s premier vows the employment picture will get better — but not right away.

Statistics Canada reports BC lost more than 10,000 jobs last month; in the last year, the province is down more than 19,000 full-time positions.

Premier Christy Clark agrees the economy is still sluggish, but she’s standing by her jobs plan.

“Pursuing aggressively the LNG opportunity, I think we will — and the Conference Board of Canada has confirmed this — expect to see significant job growth in 2015.”

She doesn’t expect immediate results.

“There are two ways to go about this. One is to try and decide you want a quick fix that’s not going to last for long. The other is to come up with a plan for the long-term to make sure that we really build this province for the future.”

Federal cabinet minister James Moore insists Canada has the best job numbers among G7 countries. Nationally, 7,000 jobs were lost last month.
