Possible crash site spotted for missing Malaysia Airlines jet

BEIJING (NEWS1130) – China’s official Xinhua News Agency says a government website has images of suspected debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

The report says the satellite images from the morning of March 9 appear to show “three suspected floating objects” of varying sizes.

The report includes co-ordinates of a location in the sea off the southern tip of Vietnam and east of Malaysia.

The report says the largest of the suspected pieces of debris measures about 24 by 22 metres.

A senior Chinese aviation official says it cannot be confirmed that objects floating in the sea captured on Chinese satellite images are linked to a Malaysia Airlines jet missing for more than five days.

Li Jiaxiang, chief of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, told reporters Thursday that the authorities could not confirm that the three objects of varying sizes detected by Chinese satellites belong to the missing aircraft. They were spotted in the sea off the southern tip of Vietnam and east of Malaysia on Sunday morning.

The aircraft had 239 people aboard, including two Canadians. It was last heard from on Saturday.
