Should the feds should force truckers back to work?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s transportation minister won’t say whether he would encourage the federal government to consider legislation that would force truckers back to work.

He is appealing to both the truckers and the Port to get back to negotiating.

Todd Stone says the number one priority is to get Port Metro Vancouver running again. He was asked whether he thinks the feds should consider back to work legislation.

“You know, I encourage the federal government and the Port to consider any and all options that they feel are appropriate,” he said.

Stone added implementing all fourteen points of a joint action plan will take time. He says waiting for all of them to be implemented before the port gets back to normal is not an option.

Both unionized and non-unionized truckers continue to protest long waits at the Port, which they say are costing them money.
