Group says it has a solid plan to save the Hollywood Theatre

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Advocates trying to save the historic Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood feel they have a good chance, as negotiations between the owner and City continue.

Mel Lehan with Save The Hollywood says they have a plan to keep it running as a theatre.

“We have a business plan where we show we can run it without any cost to the City; we can run it, we can renovate it, we can make things work. [We just need] to find a philanthropist who would like to help us or the City who would like to step in and guarantee it,” he tells us.”

Lehan says the talks are ongoing, even though a 45-day window blocking development has expired.

“There is no real 45-day window; it’s a window as long as negotiations are going on between the City and the owner. It’s an arbitrary date, which is good for us. It goes a bit longer and a bit slower.”

He adds they’ve already been approached by a number of groups about bookings, including the Vancouver International Film Festival.
