OSO, WA (NEWS1130) – There is still no change in the official number of dead in the devastating mudslide in Oso, Washington.
In a news conference this morning, Snohomish County Fire Chief Travis Hots told reporters the weather is hampering the search for the dozens still missing.
“The rain and the wind… the weather is basically working against us. [There is] a 100 per cent chance of rain, and we’re looking at wind at 20 miles an hour, in places.”
“The medical examiner’s office has confirmed 17 fatalities at this time,” he added.
An additional eight bodies have been located at the site northeast of Seattle
There are no more phone calls being made out of the Emergency Operations Center to determine if some of those listed as missing were away and just haven’t checked in. There are no house checks in nearby neighbourhoods to see if someone may have been overlooked.
That suggests authorities may announce a much higher death toll.
