Fraser Valley bus drivers vote in favour of strike mandate

By

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – Bus drivers in the Fraser Valley have voted 94 per cent in favour of a strike mandate after rejecting the latest contract offer from the company that runs the Central Fraser Valley Transit System.

However, CUPE’s Dave Ginter says there is no plan to issue actual strike notice, and says the two sides are not far apart. “I have a staff rep that works out of Abbotsford, he’s contacting the employer to invite him back to the table. I believe they’ll be acceptable to that.”

Ginter says he’s optimistic of getting a deal done soon. “Some of the issues are wage structure, benefits, parity with some other drivers in other operations.”

He says the main issues are benefits and wage structure, especially for HandyDart drivers.
