Anti-gaming advocate wants crackdown on money laundering at casinos

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It seems the issue of money laundering at BC casinos is getting worse following a provincial government audit two years ago.
An anti-gambling advocate wants to see changes.
“Since 2009, when we disbanded the specialized policing unit that was supposed to govern this problem, we’ve seen nothing but it spiraling out of control,” says Sandy Garossino with Vancouver Not Vegas.
Finance Minister Mike de Jong says the number of suspicious transactions has more than doubled since a 2011.
Garassino wants the provincial government to restore the Integrated Illegal Gaming Enforcement Team, a specialized police force that was disbanded shortly after it warned Victoria about organized crime in BC casinos.
