Stabbing in Downtown Eastside marks city’s 4th murder of 2014

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man has died after being stabbed on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside last night in the city’s fourth homicide of the year.

At this point the victim is still unidentified which makes the investigation even harder. “Confirming his identity will advance the investigation, that’s an important part of any sort of homicide investigation, trying to determine his background and history,” explains Constable Brian Montague. “We may have to rely on finger prints to do that.”

Constable Brian Montague says they were called around 8 p.m. to an area near Oppenheimer Park. The man who may be in his 50s died in hospital.

Only some of those who witnessed the attack have been cooperative, others are keeping to themselves.

Montague says at that time of night, that area is usually quite busy but he couldn’t say whether this had anything to do with the case last night.

A motive for the stabbing remains unclear.
