BC Teachers’ Federation told to cover benefits during job action

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Teachers’ Federation now has a $5-million bill to pay every month as its contract dispute with the province drags on.

The group that bargains on behalf of the government is now making the union pay the cost of teachers’ benefits.

The BC Public School Employers Association does say it will pay the union back every penny if there’s an agreement by June, or if the teachers don’t go into a full-blown strike.

The Association also says if there’s no agreement by the last day of school, it will cancel the traditional “administrative day” on that day, and teachers won’t be paid for it.

The province’s 41,000 public school teachers began phase one of their job action last week.

The teachers are refusing to do be some supervisory and administrative duties.
