Deal reached between Abbotsford School District and support workers

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A potential strike by support staff appears to have been averted by the Abbotsford School District.

A tentative agreement has been reached between the two sides and is expected to be ratified within two weeks.

“It is a relief that we have avoided strike action by our valued support staff across the district. We appreciate the work accomplished today by representatives from our district and Teamsters Local 31 negotiating teams to achieve this deal. Moving forward, we will continue to focus our energy on the important job of educating and supporting our students,” says Board Chair Cindy Schafer.

Once this is final, all districts in BC will have settled with the workers which represent people like janitors, bus drivers and secretaries.

Meanwhile, 41,000 public school teachers began phase one of their job action last week.
