Summer job seekers warned about employment scams

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A lot of people, especially young people, are going to spend the next few weeks looking for work this summer.

Simone Lis with the Better Business Bureau says too often people are being duped into a phony job offer.

She says people shouldn’t think it only happens on Craigslist. She says legitimate social media websites aren’t always telling the truth either.

“You may find a dummy job scam through LinkedIn. Start off, before you give them any information, by looking the company up, looking at their history, check their website, call them and find out if they are indeed hiring,” she suggests.

If you do want to send your resume, don’t give any personal info.

Last year, there were about a million fraud complaints filed and more than 60,000 of them were related to finding a job.
