‘Staycationers’ can enjoy rodeo, new gondola; road-trippers will need patience

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Today is the official kick-off to the long weekend and the unofficial kick-off to summer.

Here’s a look at a couple of things to keep you entertained if you’re staying in town, as well as what you can expect if heading off for a getaway:

If you like some of the traditional events the Lower Mainland has to offer, the annual Cloverdale Rodeo might be up your alley. You can trade a city atmosphere for more of a country feel, starting today. The even runs until Monday.

Or, if you want something completely new and don’t mind a little bit of a drive, the Sea-to-Sky Gondola opens in Squamish. You can enjoy the natural beauty of the area, along with a suspension bridge, and some hiking trails.

If you’re hitting the road, patience will likely be the name of the game whether you’re on a ferry, at one of the border crossings, or on one of the major highways.

Lineups at the ferries are expected to start this afternoon. Expect the border lineups to be backed up, as well. There will also likely be more traffic than usual on Highways 1, 3, and 5 (the Coquihalla).
