Chief negotiator prepared to impose limited lockout on BC teachers

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Teachers Federation has told some of its members the province’s chief negotiator is about to impose a limited lockout.

News1130 has learned teachers in Surrey have been told the BC Public School Employers’ Association has now sent a letter to the BCTF, detailing its plans as teachers start rotating strikes.

The letter indicates teachers salaries will be reduced by five per cent beginning Monday.

The BCPSEA says if the BCTF moves ahead with its plan for rolling walkouts, which is considered phase two of job action, teachers’ salaries will then be reduced by 10 per cent the moment a walkout affects any school.

The action also orders that teachers not attend school 45 minutes before and after classes, unless there is a student emergency.

The BCTF have said rolling walkouts will begin across the province on Monday.

News1130 has phone calls and emails out to the BCTF and the BCPSEA but has not heard back.
