Party bus company warns grads found to be drinking won’t get a ride

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Despite the teachers’ dispute, grad season is coming and you want to make sure your kids are safe when they are out celebrating.

A big concern about their safety is getting around in a limo or party bus. A student could find themselves out of a ride if they drink before they hop on or if they try to smuggle on some booze.

Kyle Benzies, owner of PartyBus.com, says this message has just been plastered on their website as a reminder to students that it is against the law to have open alcohol on board.

He says his drivers can search a student if they suspect this is the case.

“If it is brought on board, your trip will be terminated. If there is a chance to allow the kids to still celebrate and it seems to be just a bad apple in the group that has consumed alcohol or snuck alcohol on board at that point, they would be removed.”

Benzies says if a driver does not search a suspected student, they will not be automatically fired but instead be reminded of company policy to do so.

“You have to take their word that they are doing everything that they can as far checking to make sure that there is nothing in jackets, looking into purses, and that sort of stuff. They are informed that that is what they are supposed to do, and I trust that if they say they are doing it, they are actually doing it.”

Benzies notes the company does not have video surveillance.
