Dads can help their daughters reach their goals simply by doing chores: study

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You want to see your daughter succeed but what can you do to help her reach her goals?

A study out of UBC suggests dads can have a major influence, just by doing the chores.

They key, according to researchers, is daughters seeing their fathers perform non-traditional tasks. The message it sends is that women and men share the housework and they share the working world, which means their daughters can do anything.

The study suggests daughters who grow up in a home where moms do all household tasks, like the vacuuming and laundry, are more likely to see themselves in jobs that have traditional been dominated by women like teachers and nurses.

But if dads do more of the chores, it opens girls’ eyes and they feel confident about taking on career challenges they otherwise wouldn’t.
