VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Are you ready for some football?!

The 20th World Cup kicks off on June 12th and local soccer fans could not be more excited.

Almost four million fans are going to Brazil to take in the action, while Vancouver’s Commercial Drive will become the local hub for watching matches.

“You are going to be seeing flags of all sorts. You’re going to be seeing all kinds of people, fans, fanatics, you name it. It’s going to be wild,” says one excited fan.

“Standing room outside… You’re going to have to watch from outside if you don’t get here early. It’s going to be crazy. It’s going to be absolutely insane,” warns another.

“Lots of women come down here, especially to get into the excitement of the energy that happens… I don’t want to say it’s a pick-up joint, but there is a lot of young guys that are here,” says one woman.

“[Commercial Drive] will be jam-packed a lot more when Italy plays and Brazil plays because the clientele here are a lot of Portuguese, Brazilians, and Italians.”

Action kicks off at 1 p.m. on June 12th between Croatia and Brazil.
