VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Hope you’ve already got your summer vacation booked. A survey shows almost half of Canadians already have their getaway planned out.
According to the survey, 45 per cent of travel agents asked say bookings are up when compared to last year, with most vacations lasting about 10 days. This is despite the fact most people feel prices have gone up.
“Sixty-seven per cent of our travel consultants said that people were absolutely going to be planning a trip. I think people value that time,” says Gerald Parent with American Express Travel.
He thinks there’s a simple reason for the increase in business. “Most Canadians had a terrible winter this year and people are absolutely looking to travel.”
When asked what type of experience most customers are looking for, almost half wanted relaxing ones, like an all-inclusive beach vacation. Thirty-four per cent are looking to immerse themselves in the culture of the destination.
He adds along with always-popular spots of London, Paris, Los Angeles, and Orlando, there are emerging hot spots such as Brazil, Greece, South Carolina, and Colorado. Spending the summer on the water is also a popular choice this year, with a third of agents booking cruises for clients.
