Many employees view workplace meetings as a waste of time: poll

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Getting behind on your work? Maybe you’re going to too many meetings!

A poll by Robert Half Management Resources is taking a look at why some many employees dread the boardroom.

It finds the lack of an agenda is the biggest problem, followed by not having a clear purpose.

David King with the group says it’s best to finish with some sort of action or decision.

“Determine exactly what the action items and next steps need to be and clearly communicate those so people leave the meeting as if they have accomplished something versus have just spent time socializing,” he explains.

King says it’s also important not to let individual agenda items take over the meeting. “You may have to cut those off and defer them to either an additional meeting with a smaller group or the next meeting for this group, but don’t allow one or two agenda items out of a series of items to sort of railroad things and ultimately take up all the time.”
