Planned public school closures in BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC teachers are escalating job action to a full walkout.

The BCTF formally issued 72-hour notice of full strike action on June 12th, with Tuesday, June 17th the projected day for a full walkout. But “study sessions” for teachers have been planned for Monday, June 16th, meaning there will not be any classes on that day, either.

In mid-May, the BC Teachers’ Federation announced it was moving to Stage 2 of job action, just days after the province offered a $1,200 signing bonus and a six-year contract in place of the 10-year deal that was a plank in the Liberal election campaign. The government also threatened a five per cent wage cut if a contract isn’t reached by the end of the school year.

Stage 2 job action included rotating strikes through to June 13th.
