Thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment stolen from North Shore Rescue

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Some valuable equipment has been stolen from North Shore Rescue.

Doug Pope with NSR says the equipment includes rope rescue kits, tents, sleeping bags, camping stoves, a chainsaw, some medical equipment.

He says the gear is worth more than $10,000 and is paramount to rescue efforts. “We don’t have funds to go out and get the gear. We’re going to have to look at what’s missing and see what we can do to replace it.”

Pope says someone would have had to hike about three hours to get to the cache that was vandalized in Hanes Valley.

Meantime, an Australian tourist who was believed lost while hiking in Lynn Canyon has been found in Deep Cove.

He was not hurt.

North Shore Rescue says it was all a misunderstanding between the hiker and his wife.

Crews say always tell someone exactly what you’re doing when heading into the back country and carry a cell phone.
