Teachers take stand by picketing through summer

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With the lure of vacation time, what’s the incentive to keep teachers on the picket lines this summer?

Some have taken to social media to express frustration at the possibility of having to strike when it’s normally a time of rest.

But Gail Chaddick-Costello with the Langley Teacher’s Association claims they’ve had more than 100 people sign-up already.

She says the incentive is certainly not monetary.

“It’s philosophical, it’s about what we stand for. That’s their incentive to be there on the strike line and picketing out summer school,” Chaddick-Costello explains. “It’s about the fact that we believe we are right in terms of trying to get a fair contract.”

She says teachers will also start getting four days of strike pay instead of three because of donations from Ontario teachers.
