High-speed bobsled on wheels ready to roll in Whistler

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – A new, adreneline-fueled activity has opened for the summer at Whistler.

The home of zip-lines, bungee jumping and mountain biking now features “Rolling Thunder”, a high-speed bobsled on wheels at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Groups of five including the professional pilot are sent hurtling down the same run where Olympians set records on ice in 2010.

rolling thunder 2You’ll reach speeds of 80 kilometres an hour whipping through 10 corners including the famous Thunderbird Corner.

Roger Soane is the President and CEO of Whistler Sports Legacies says the wheeled bobsled is good for tourism and a way to generate revenue to put back into sports for future Olympians.

Soane says the ride doesn’t compare to a roller-coaster.

“It’s exhilirating, it’s fast and unlike anything out there. It’s just something that’s very free-flowing.”

As far as a target audience, Soane says this fits in with those adreneline junkies visiting Whistler.

“They’ll do something that’s very unique, this is only one of four such tracks in North America,” he says.
