Serious crash near Osoyoos closes Highway 3

OSOYOOS (NEWS1130) – Mounties say a crash between two transport trucks in the south Okanagan has injured a driver, sparked a wildfire and closed a section of highway.

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says the crash occurred on Highway 3 late this afternoon at Spotted Lake, which is northwest of Osoyoos.

He says both trucks were headed west and one may have side swiped the other while passing.

Clark says the vehicles then erupted into flames, one of the drivers escaped unharmed, but the second driver was pulled from the vehicle and airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He says the crash caused a ground fire, threatening a local home, and the Ministry of Forests is battling the flames through aerial drops.

Clark says the highway will be closed for several hours.
