Calgary police release “person of interest” in search for family

CALGARY (NEWS1130) – Calgary police have released the man who was taken in for questioning in relation to the missing persons case of five-year-old Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents Alvin and Kathryn Liknes.

Although no charges have been laid and the man has not been identified, he still remains a ‘person of interest’ as the search continues and the Amber Alert remains in place.

Staff Sgt. Jason Bobrowich said police couldn’t hold him forever.

“It depends on the situation,” he said. “If a person has come in voluntarily for an interview or whether detention or an arrest type of situation is in effect.”

Bobrowich added police usually use a 24-hour time frame to interview.

Crews are still searching an Airdrie acreage looking for anything that could lead them to O’Brien and his grandparents.

They have been on-site since Friday evening and given the size of the property, this search is likely to continue throughout Sunday and into Monday.

Police are still asking for the public’s help for any information related to the case.
