VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Constance Barnes has made it official.
The Vancouver Park Board commissioner has formally announced her bid for the federal NDP nomination in Vancouver-Centre, the riding currently held by Liberal MP Hedy Fry.
Barnes says she does have a lot of respect for the incumbent. “With that being said, I also have dealt with a lot of the new issues. I have people that come forward and say ‘we’d love for you to run, we’d really like to see some fresh eyes.'”
She says there are many local issues she wishes to bring to Ottawa. “What I am hearing is housing, affordable housing, affordable child care, early care and learning, definitely tanker traffic.”
Barnes would definitely be the underdog in the race, as Fry has held the riding since 1993.
She was first elected to the Park Board in 2008.
A date for the formal nomination hasn’t yet been set.
