Hundreds attend candlelight vigil in Calgary for Nathan O’Brien and family

CALGARY (NEWS1130) – There were plenty of tears, but there was also plenty of hope.

Around 500 friends, neighbours and complete strangers attended a candlelight vigil in Calgary last night in solidarity with the parents of Nathan O’Brien. The five-year-old disappeared with his grandparents nearly two weeks ago.

Green ribbons seen in the neighbourhood and around the city are a sign of support.

Brent Bedford, president of the Parkhill Community Association, says this shows hope is not fading.

“If anything, it’s increasing; you go up and down the streets here and you’ll see the green ribbons just sprouting everywhere and it’s happening all over the city too” he says. “That’s what we need to do is to keep the hope there and support the family.”

Nathan’s mother, Jennifer O’Brien, says she is not giving up. “We’re very hopeful they’re still out there. There’s no doubt in our mind.”

Investigators have moved to a second landfill as part of what they call normal procedure they are also looking in to the business relationship between Alvin Liknes and person of interest Douglas Garland.
