Would you ditch work to spend this gorgeous day at the beach?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The weather today is perfect if you want to hit the beach.

News1130’s Alison Bailey is ready for some bad tan lines, crowded concession stands, and the smell of sunscreen and salt water in the air. She wanted to play hookey today, and tried to convince others to join her:

My success rate has been about 50/50.

I began by talking to Shai. He started out saying his decision would depend on what his friends were doing, and whether any activities were going on at the beach.

I asked him what the best spots are to hide out from your boss.

“Probably along the North Shore, maybe Ambleside or Whitecliff, down to Horseshoe Bay, probably be a good secluded place around there, maybe,” he answered.

“Okay, so you might consider it.”

“Maybe.”

He’s never played hooky before, but there’s a first for everything.

Just when I thought I might have a pal for the day, he dropped this: “I would love to but I’m already here so I might as well go to work.”

So, my search for a beach buddy continued. I kept finding out Vancouverites are largely very responsible.

Chris was at the Broadway Canada Line Station. He liked the idea of playing hookey and he’s done it his younger years.

When it came to whether he may relive some of those days today, he told me, “No I can’t. I know, I’ve completely changed my story, but I can’t, I can’t.”

Darn it.

But Alice was all for it!

“Do you want to go to the beach?”

“Yeah, absolutely!”

Time to round up a towel, a cool drink, and some SPF 60.

See you — err, talk to you all — on Monday.
