Leader of Surrey Sikh temple assaulted while in pre-trial centre: RCMP

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The president of a Surrey Sikh temple has been beaten up in custody according to Mounties.

Brookside Gurdwara President Baldev Kalsi is charged with attempted murder and currently in a pre-trial centre as his wife Narinder is on life support in the hospital.

Surrey RCMP says Baldev Kalsi was assaulted Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. He has some face injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

A 42-year-old man has been identified as a suspect but the investigation continues.

66-year-old Kalsi originally faced a charge of aggravated assault after police were called to a home on 32nd Avenue near 194th Street on Sunday.

His wife was airlifted to hospital after being found with life-threatening injuries.
