BURNABY (NEWS1130) – There could be another pair of towers headed for the Metrotown area. Some folks at a public hearing in Burnaby expressed their concerns over density in their neighbourhood.
Rick McGowan doesn’t like the changes he’s seeing. He remembers when years ago there weren’t any high rises at all. “Now the sky’s the limit as far as the height, and that will change the traffic patterns, and the amount of congestion in the area, and that’s my primary concern.”
He’s worried rezoning the area to allow this development would open the door to more skyscrapers. “If they put this one in, it will set a precedent for the other medium density housing that’s behind each tower to be possibly rezoned for higher density.”
The proposed Gold House development will be a block south of the Metropolis shopping centre. The residential apartment buildings will be fronting Beresford Street and low-rise housing will be fronting Cassie Avenue and McKay Avenue. It includes a 41 and 26 storey set of towers, townhouses and commercial office space.
