Four hikers found after two North Shore Rescue searches

NORTH SHORE (NEWS1130) – The beautiful weather means the trails are packed in the backcountry, and that has been keeping North Shore Rescue very busy.

Crews were involved in two separate operations this morning, but both ended well.

Two climbers called a friend yesterday morning from a challenging route on Crown Mountain — the Widow-Maker — saying they were off-track, but descending.

That prompted an intensive ground and air search. But before 8 a.m., they called the RCMP to say they were alright, near Grouse Mountain, and hiking out.

“We’re very intrigued to see what has happened. We’re grateful that they’re okay but we had a tremendous amount of people out last night, looking for them, trying to ensure their well-being. It’s good to have a nice closure, but we just want to  make sure that this kind of thing doesn’t happen again,” says Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue.

Crews were also busy looking for two hikers — a man and a woman — in the Lynn Headwaters area. The woman hurt her ankle.

“He went off the trail to try to find a spot where he could get a signal to call out for help. So, we told him to stay put where he was and from there, we made our way to locate the female, who was still sitting on the trail.”

All four hikers will be okay.
