Liquor law changes could mean kids have access to gaming devices in bars

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – While some bars and pubs are a little more family friendly as a result of recent changes to BC’s liquor laws, those businesses are still allowed to sell some gaming devices.

Laura Piva-Babcock with BCLC says this caused some some concern.

“This posed a bit of a question for the BCLC in that we do have self serve lottery equipment selling pull tabs and lottery tickets in bars and pubs.”

She says the organization is now running an advertising campaign to educate parents about the changes.

“Making sure that they understand that while lottery products may look like a game, they are not appropriate for children and some pamphlets and materials so they can understand the why behind that as well.”

Pive-Babcock says the overall prevention strategy is a collaboration between retailers, BCLC and the enforcement branch.
