Crews continue to battle 40-hectare Peachland wildfire

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It was a good night for crews battling a 40-hectare wildfire in Peachland but the hot and dry conditions are making it tough.

Fire Information Officer Kelsey Winter says the fire is completely boxed in with retardant.

“The same amount of personnel will be on the fire tonight possibly more depending on how the fire acts during the day, but 85 personnel to start. And as for air support, we are not sure yet. We have to have eyes on the fire this morning and that is the process we are doing right now.”

As far as the upcoming weather forecast, Winter says it’s going to be dry. “Same thing as yesterday for weather, so high temperatures, low humidity. No lightning in the forecast for tonight and today so that is good news. We are heading into three days of more hot and dry temperatures”

Only one person has been evacuated from their home.

The Okanagan Connector is fully open to traffic after being partially closed Friday due to heavy smoke.
