Former UBC professor charged with voyeurism

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A former UBC professor is being accused of secretly filming participants as they changed during a study, facing charges of voyeurism.

The study was fitness-related, so according to police, people had to put on sportswear before taking part. That’s where James Rupert is accused of doing his peeping, with police saying he set up a hidden camera in a change room.

Rupert ended his time at UBC on June 30th, six days after formally being charged. He was with the university for 10 years.

The school has released a statement saying the charges are of serious concern.

The 56-year-old is well-known internationally, having worked with the World Anti-Doping Agency to crack down on cheating athletes.

Rupert makes his next court appearance in September.
