No criminal charges so far in BC wildfires

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – No criminal charges have been laid this season for starting a wildfire but there’s still time according to Fire Information Officer Dustin Eno.

“For larger incidents that result in wildfires those are usually through a process of investigations and tips through the public are very important but we also have fire cause investigators that are very good at figuring out how fires started.”

In the past there have been a number of high profile cases and it does take some time for investigations to complete.

“Obviously it does cost the province a lot of money and can damage a lot of property so recouping those costs is important for the province’s legal team,” Eno explains.

Last weekend alone more than 20 tickets or warnings were issued.

There are about 160 fires burning across the province.
