PNE says good weather contributes to strong first week

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The PNE has surpassed the halfway mark for the 2014 season. It’s too early to say what attendance numbers are looking like but Laura Ballance with the PNE suspects the sunshine helped get people through the gates last week, and expects that to carry on. “If the weather holds we should have a very, very strong fair. All early indications are that it’s going very well and that people are excited about the attractions that we thought they’d be excited about.”

She says things will normally get busier. “We traditionally do about 30 per cent of our attendance in the final weekend. You know, it’s too early for us to make any assumptions but we can say with the good weather that we’ve had that’s it’s been a really, really strong start.”

The fair’s attendance goal is anywhere from 700,000 to 750,000 this year after, that’s about 40 thousand more than 2013.
She adds the top three attractions drawing crowds include the Game of Thrones exhibit, nightly concerts, and Toontastic for the kids.
The fair closes after the Labour Day weekend.
