How much will the average raise be next year?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – How would you like a little extra jingle in your jeans?

Congratulations! You could be in line for a raise next year.

Karl Aboud with the Hay Group says the average increase to base salary will be 2.6 per cent in 2015. The group surveyed more than 400 employers in both the public and private sectors.

“One of the sectors that typically brings BC below the average is forestry and paper,” explains Aboud.

“So it might be that the renewed strength of forestry, which in turn might be reflective of the renewed strength of the American housing market, might be supporting the BC number to be closer to the average this year than last.”

The prediction for 2014 was 2.3 per cent.

The survey finds workers in Alberta will have the most added to their paycheques; salaries there are projected to go up by 3.1 per cent.
