More high-end retailers cashing in on big spenders in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’ve lived in Vancouver for awhile, you’ve probably seen the retail landscape go through some changes. More luxury stores are setting up shop in our city, hoping to attract exclusive shoppers.

Shelling out big bucks for a condo in Vancouver is nothing new. But when it comes to shopping, retail watchers say the city is moving more and more toward luxury stores that attract big spenders.

Lyndi Barrett with the online publication Style Calling points out Vancouver attracts a lot of people from all over the world. She says retailers are taking notice of it as a big, growing market.

“A lot more companies have larger budgets now for Vancouver… larger storefronts for events.”

“Vancouver attracts a lot of the people from all over the world, whether to live here or to vacation, and I think retailers are taking notice of it as a really big, growing market,” she adds.

Barrett notes many local boutiques are going to fashion capitals like Milan and Paris for their buying trips.

She adds Gastown is another indication of the trend toward luxury, saying the neighbourhood has changed a lot over the last couple of years It’s been named the fourth-most stylish neighbourhood in the world by a New York-based fashion magazine.

The top three include Paris’ First Arrondissement, and SoHo in New York.
