VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As the BCTF and the province continue negotiations on Saturday, the Langley Teachers’ Association is expressing optimism that a deal will be reached.
The head of the Langley Teachers Association Gail Chaddock-Costello says she was shocked to hear Ready say both sides remain very far apart, adding the last time they were at the table, they came close to agreeing on salary but are still struggling with class size and composition.
She says if a deal is reached in the eleventh hour, schools could still be open on Tuesday. “There is still an opportunity for support staff and admin to open schools to do the basic things that typically what happen on day one. [Such as] picking up books or picking up schedules or simply children coming into the school at the elementary grades.”
She says many parents she has spoken with are cautiously optimistic a deal will be reached during this round of talks.
