Hundreds of people expressing frustration with the teachers dispute to News1130

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It seems frustration over the teachers dispute has hit the boiling point.

After months of rhetoric from both sides, two days of cancelled classes, and some controversial comments from the premier just yesterday, our listeners have had enough.

We’ve been sifting through the hundreds of comments on our Listener Line and our articles, and people are not pleased. There are strong words both in favour of teachers and in favour of the government.

Here’s a sample from our Listener Line:

“Wanted to say that I support the teachers, the class size and composition issue is a huge problem and the government should obey the BC court.”

“Teachers, I think, are dealing with the most valuable resource that we have, which is our children, and I think that they should be well compensated.”

“I’m 100 per cent behind the teachers for class size and composition. That just should not be jeopardized at all, and they should continue fighting it. The government is wrong.”

“It is a contest between who can hold out the longest. I don’t think it really has anything to do with class size and composition.”

The comments are no less passionate online, with one person saying Christy Clark is grasping at straws and another saying they have no sympathy for the “ridiculous” demands of the “rogue” BCTF.

Ralph says the BC Teachers’ Federation is out in left field, while Alan mocks Christy Clark. “Her Majesty has spoken! Release the pigeons! Cancel Christmas! Let them eat cake! What else can you expect from a former Education Minister?”

Still others aren’t choosing to take a side, and are clearly just frustrated with the whole situation.

“Can’t stand the union, can’t stand the government. Both sides should have been working hard on a solution in July and August.”

“If these people (both sides) talked to each other, as much as they do to the media – maybe there’d be some progress. For goodness sake lock yourselves in a room, and come out when it’s settled.”

Feel free to continue the discussion in the comment section below.
