Vedder Mountain fire a reminder forests are still dry

By

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – The forest fire on Vedder Mountain is now 100 per cent contained, according to the Coastal Fire Centre.

It grew to about a hectare in size, and 11 crew members and a helicopter worked to put it out.

Fire information officer Marg Drysdale says they are warning campers to be alert this weekend with the conditions expected to stay warm and dry.

“We really want people to be very careful in where they’re locating their campfires and how they’re going about it. Make sure there is nothing in the area above where you’re having your campfire, and just be very cautious.”

She thinks this fire was human caused, and a caller to our Chilliwack station this morning from someone who was up there said they saw what looked to be a vacated camp in the area.
