IKEA recalls 300 children’s swings in Canada

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Ikea is recalling its Gunggung fabric swing because the suspension fitting that attaches the swing to its steel hooks could break, causing a fall that could injure a child.

The joint recall from Health Canada, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, and IKEA Canada means about 300 units are being taken off the market in Canada. The recall affects another 2,000 units in the States.

Health Canada says the suspension fittings can break, causing a child to fall from the swing, putting them at risk of an injury.

IKEA has received four reports worldwide — including one in Germany, two in Austria and one in Canada — of the suspension fittings breaking in use. In one incident, a child fell and sustained a fractured leg.

There have been no reports of injury in Canada.

The Gunggung swing is intended for children age three to seven, and it retails for $20 at Ikea stores and the company website. The product is made in Vietnam.

The swing is made of green polyester fabric and hangs from a plastic suspension fitting attached to steel hooks.

Anyone who has this item should return it to an IKEA store for a full refund.
