Edmonton hospital ER re-opened after Ebola ruled out

EDMONTON (NEWS1130) – An emergency department in one of Edmonton’s largest hospitals is being re-opened after Ebola was ruled out as the cause of a patient’s illness.

Alberta’s senior medical officer of health Dr. Gerry Predy says a patient arrived this morning at Royal Alexandra Hospital with symptoms of the disease.

Predy says the patient had been to Africa, where there is an Ebola outbreak.

But when health officials dug deeper into the patient’s travel history, they learned the person had travelled to an area of the continent not currently affected.

Predy says the patient remains in isolation while further test are done, but is not considered to have a disease that is “unusually infectious.”
