VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – July was a hot month for Canadian retailers, with BC beating the national average.
The retail sector had revenue of $42.5 billion in July, up five per cent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Canada.
BC’s retailers did better than that, posting a 6.2 per cent year-over-year gain for total sales of $5.6 billion.
It was the fourth month in a row that BC’s retail sales increase was more than six per cent.
Canada’s month-over-month performance, which the sector is less concerned about, produced a drop of one tenth of a point. Economists were expecting a half-point gain.
